Students of the junior class at Portales High School will host their annual class dinner and auction at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the school cafeteria.
Catered by J4 Bar-B-Que Catering, the meal will feature a barbecue plate complete with sides and drink. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $6 for children.
The auction will feature items that have been donated by local businesses and students. So far items such as candles, gift certificates and a vacuum cleaner have been donated to the class for the auction, said Amanda Wood, junior class student.
“There are large and small items alike,” Wood said.
Money raised from the auction will be used for junior class activities such as prom, Maypole and graduation, Wood said.
More than 150 students make up this year’s junior class. The class has nine sponsors that help the students with events and activities, said Wade Fraze, class sponsor.
The junior class is responsible for hosting the prom. They purchase all the decorations and are in charge of putting the event on, Fraze said.
“It is our biggest fund raiser that pays for prom,” Fraze said.
Though the auction does not take place until Sunday, the deadline to have donations for the auction is today, Fraze said.
“Without the support of businesses and donations from private people, we wouldn’t be able to have prom,” Fraze said.
