Upcoming activities
• The Elida Schools Science Fair will take place Friday. Contestants will be divided into two divisions, grades 6-8 and grades 9-10. Ribbons will be awarded to first, second, and third place projects in each division. Medals will be awarded for top overall placings. Students will be eligible to compete at the Regional Science Fair at Eastern New Mexico University on March 8.

• The Elida FCCLA is currently preparing for the regional FCCLA contest to be held on Saturday on the ENMU campus. Members are planning to compete in Creed, Crudites, Decorated Cake, Parliamentary Procedure, Chapter Service Project Display and Applied Technology. Qualifiers from the Regional Level will go on to compete at state in March.

• The drama class at Elida High School will be showcasing a one-act play at the annual drama festival held at ENMU. Anna Campbell, Dru Sanders and Jose Muniz will be acting in the production entitled, “The Worker” by Walter Wykes. Wykes is known for his surreal and absurdist point of view and the stage setting and costumes all designed by the students reflect this outlook. The director is senior student, Sanders.

The student actors will also be attending various workshops at the university event that will include such subjects as comic improvisation, theatrical make-up, and Javanese dance. This is the third year that the drama students have performed at the festival.

The Elida junior class is selling raffle tickets for a Greg Dutton bit. The class is charging $2 per ticket or $5 for three tickets. See Donna Tivis or any of the following juniors: Ryan Best, Trent Bilberry, Anna Campbell, Cade Cathey, Ethan Jasso, Nicole Jasso, Levi Massey, Morgan McBride, Jose Muniz, Gus Rodriguez, or Lindsey Smith.
