Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer coach Travis McCorkle has signed nine players to national letters of intent for the 2008 season.

They include goalkeeper Sierra Cardenas of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; midfielders Tasha Caulder of Odessa, Texas; Andrea Elizondo of El Paso; Kimberly Luna of Albuquerque (Sandia), and Danielle Thurman of Albuquerque (Del Norte); defenders Annette Meadows of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Sarah Oates of Albuquerque (Sandia Prep) and Stephanie Pease of Albuquerque (Del Norte), and sweeper Mackenzie Morris of Colorado Springs, Colo.

McCorkle, who started the ENMU program in 2003, said the group is perhaps the most talented and versatile in the program’s history.
“I’m really pleased with the quality of our recruiting class,” McCorkle said. “The girls are good students, good players and will be good teammates. We expect them to come in ready to contribute from the first day.”

ENMU posted a 9-9 record in 2007, including 3-7 in the Lone Star Conference. The Zias had a school-record seven-game winning streak last fall and beat regional rivals West Texas A&M and St. Mary’s for the first time.

“We had a good run last year in the first half of the season,” McCorkle said. “Our goal is to be more consistent next season. Our team was a little young last year, but they’ve learned from that experience and want more success next season.”
