Sophomore Kristen Cruickshank of Glendale, Ariz., became the second consecutive Eastern New Mexico University player to receive Lone Star Conference South Division softball pitcher of the week honors Tuesday.
Cruickshank, who is 4-2 for the season with a 1.26 earned run average, allowed eight hits and two runs — both unearned — with 10 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings over three appearances in last week’s Division II Leadoff Classic in Phoenix. She tossed a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over 10th-ranked Cal State Stanislaus, lost 1-0 to Gold Bracket top seed UC Santa Barbara after giving up an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh, and pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief in a 5-3 loss to Minnesota State-Mankato.
Cruickshank, who also spends time at first base and as a designated player when not in the circle, won a South hitter of the week honor early in the 2007 season.
ENMU junior Natalie Woodside notched the South’s pitching award for the previous week.
