Q. Describe what your job entails?
A. Greeting clients, answering phones, helping with the daily salon activities; which include upkeep, and sanitation and that is important in a salon.
Q. What is a typical day on the job like for you?
A. There’s no typical day, that’s what makes this job fun; hair is different every time, each client makes this job non-typical.
Q. Why did you choose this job?
A. I watched my mom as a young teenager style other kids’ hair when they were getting ready for prom. I like making others feel better about themselves it challenges me a lot.
Q. What type of training, if any, do you need for your job?
A. You have to attend Cosmetology School plus an internship at a salon and pass the exam of the state board. Then apply for three licenses, business license, cosmetology license, and booth rental license. The booth rental license allows you to work in a privately owned salon as a self-employed cosmetologist.
Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?
A. I enjoy my clients that I have built a relationship with and I like making the clients happy about themselves. It is hard work but a lot fun and to me its not a job, its what I like to do.
