Blackwood Legacy to perform
The Nashville-based Blackwood Legacy gospel group, featuring former Blackwood Brothers Quartet lead singer and Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee, Rick Price will be performing at 7 p.m Thursday at New Testament Baptist Church, Second and Elgin in Portales. Admission is free, an offering will be taken.

The group, including Washington state native Luke Yates and Price’s daughter Allie Price will perform a Blackwood Brothers tribute concert featuring old favorites and contemporary worship numbers.

ENMU hosting speech tournament
Eastern New Mexico University has been selected to host the 2008 New Mexico State High School Speech Tournament Thursday through Saturday on the Portales campus. The central location for the tournament is the lobby of the College of Business.

The tournament includes debate, student congress, interpretative reading, duo, oratory and other public speaking events.

The tournament is sponsored by the New Mexico Activities Association. Approximately 30 high schools participate in the tournament.

Anthony Schroeder, ENMU professor and tournament director, estimates that ENMU has hosted the tournament over 50 times.

Volunteer judges are needed. A training session will be held at 6:30 p.m. today in Room 138 of the College of Business.
