Former NFL player at PHS
A retired New York Giant will walk through Portales to help raise money for seriously ill Ground Zero rescue and recovery workers.
On “a Journey for 9/11” George Martin, a defensive star and co-captain in Super Bowl XXI (1986), is on a 3,500-plus mile trek to raise money for the personnel that worked at Ground Zero. Martin will speak to students at Portales High School at 10 a.m. Thursday to address the health issues that have befallen 9/11 rescue and recovery workers and to highlight work done by police, fire, EMS workers and teachers.
Martin hopes to raise $10 million to provide healthcare to 9/11 responders who are suffering from lung disease and other serious medical conditions stemming for their service at Ground Zero after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
