Two local music artists plan to hold a concert to benefit the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico.

Andy Mason and Don Thomas will hold a concert for children from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Memorial building.

“The concert will help the children in the area and it will be good clean family fun,” Thomas said.

Mason and Thomas had been wanting to hold a concert for children in this area and thought that a concert that benefited the ENM Food Bank was perfect.

“Don and I were thinking of ways that we could help the Food Bank when the idea of a concert came to us,” Mason said. “This will be the first time that Don and I have performed together in this type of concert for children.”

It is good when members of the community become involved with program of the Eastern New Mexico Food Bank program. It is even better when that member offers to host an event that benefits the program, said Nancy Taylor director of the ENM Food Bank.

“We are so excited that they offered to do the concert to benefit the Food Bank,” Taylor said. “I have known about Andy’s and Don’s love for children and what they are doing is great.”

One of the programs that will benefit from the concert will be the “Backpack Program” which offers a backpack filled with food for qualifying elementary children. The program is not scheduled to begin until next year, Taylor said.

The program is designed to provide proper nutritional food to a child whose family is in need of a little assistance and experiencing some difficulty, Taylor said

“Our goal is to raise $5,000 and 1,000 cans of food for the ENM food bank and their backpack program,” Thomas said.

The cost of the concert is three cans of food that will be donated to the ENM food bank.
