Faith-based outreach program in Clovis celebrates anniversary

When Sistar G. Yancy traveled from California to Clovis about seven years ago to speak at a church-related workshop about prison ministry, she never dreamed she would move here.

Now, Yancy is inviting people in the community to help celebrate the second anniversary of her faith-based education, training, counseling and community outreach organization — Christian Believers Education — at its downtown Clovis location.

“I teach that if you have the same mind, you get the same results, but if you can change your mind, you can change the results,” said Yancy, who did similar work in northern California since 1979 before moving to Clovis.

Yancy, who is a Board Certified Christian Counselor (BCCC) and a Licensed Alcohol Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) with a doctorate in ministry, said one of her main goals is to work with local churches to increase the number of community outreaches for area neighborhoods, such as support groups, prayer breakfasts and block parties in the summer.

“There is a great need here,” Yancy said. “What we want is to let people in the neighborhoods know that someone is out there and that if they have a need, we will try to help them. We share Christ with them and let them know we care. It’s exciting.”
