Police arrest man on warrants, seize 42 marijuana plants

Portales Police arrested one man and seized 42 marijuana plants growing at a Portales residence Saturday, according to a news release.

Robert Hawkins, 37, of Portales was arrested on outstanding warrants from Curry County for aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, failure to appear and phone harassment after police received information he was staying at a residence at 506 S. Ave. E in Portales. He also had warrants out of Roosevelt County for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the process of arresting Hawkins, police found what they said were growing marijuana plants at the residence.

Hawkins was charged with the outstanding warrants as well as additional charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and concealing his identity.

Hawkins is being held in Roosevelt County Detention Center with two warrants listing no bond and an additional $10,000 bond.
