PNT Staff Report
Police were investigating an assault of undetermined type Monday afternoon that sent one man to the hospital.
According to Capt. Lonnie Berry of the Portales Police Department, a person found inside a residence at 901 S. Main in Portales was transported to Roosevelt General Hospital after a witness reported a suspect with blood on them in the area.
He said police received the call shortly before 5 p.m. and made contact with the suspect shortly after and linked him back to the house were they found the victim by himself.
“It was some type of assault but right now we can’t say exactly what kind of wounds the victim has,” Berry said. “We’re really in major investigative mode here.”
Berry said the suspect had been taken into custody but no charges had yet been filed. He said he believed there was only one suspect involved.
Berry said he should be able to release more details on the victim and type of assault later Monday evening.
At 7 p.m. police were awaiting search warrants to begin collecting evidence inside the house.
