All-Stars continue to roll at state tourney

The Roosevelt County All-Stars will take to the field once again against Carlsbad for a chance to advance in the state 10-11 Little League Championships.

The All-Stars defeated Deming 13-0 Tuesday night in the fourth due to the run rule, said All-Star coach Sammy Villanueva.
“We took the wind out of them early, Coach Villanueva said.

Alex Villanueva pitched three shutout innings before Josh Jimenez took over to end the game in the fourth.

“Josh will be our starting pitcher against Carlsbad,” Coach Villanueva said. “We are very confident in his abilities.”

Jimenez, hit a three-run home run in the third inning, all of the lead off hitters roped the ball from the get-go, Coach Villanueva said.

The win pits the team against Carlsbad, the team to hand them their only loss in the second round of the double-elimination tournament Sunday.
“These guys are really excited about playing Carslbad,” Sammy Villanueva said.

The All-Star’s lost to Carlsbad 6-3 on Sunday, the game was tied 3-3 in the sixth inning but Carlsbad scored three in the bottom of the sixth, Coach Villanueva said.

Coach Villanueva said, that this is the farthest he has taken a team in the state tournament.

“I am excited and the kids are excited,” he said. “We have a chance to face Carlsbad again and the kids are looking forward to that.”
