Name: Adam Pitterman

Job: Director of Athletic Communications at Eastern New Mexico University

Background: Pitterman completed his undergraduate degree at State University of New York Brockport, and then took an internship at Alfred State. Later, he was a graduate assistant at Dalton State in Mississippi. He then spent a year in NC at Mount Olive, N.C. after traveling the country, later finding two assistant jobs at Texas Pan-American and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. He returned to SUNY Brockport as an assistant.

Time on the job: Two years

What does your job entail? Anything that has to do with media relations for the ENMU teams and games. I help nominate players for awards, give information for the website, including setting up audio or video clips online. I keep track of what teams do and get it out there.

What is a typical day on the job like for you? I arrive at 8 or 9 a.m., first checking my email. As of late, I next work on the media guides the Athletic Communication department distributes as they are to be out early this season. Later, I report rosters to the NCAA.

Why did you choose this job? Sometimes, I think it chose me. At Brockport, my first job was to enter sports statistics from books into the computer. I had to accomplish the task within a couple of weeks, and I completed it in one day. By the end of the day I was seeing numbers, but I was hooked.

What type of training, if any, do you need for your job? Classes will only teach you concepts. Working in the office itself is where you receive the best training.

What do you enjoy most about your job? When one of our athletes does well and gets recognized. If you don’t get recognized, you aren’t doing something.
