It’s Their Job: Carley Bollema

Job: Hairstylist at Reflections Hair Studio

Background: Bollema was born and raised in the Portales area. She graduated from Clovis Community College last December.

Time on job: Eight months

What does your job entail? I do everything from coloring, cutting, perming and highlighting customers’ hair.

What is a typical day like for you? It’s never typical here. I have a lot of fun with clients. Every person is different, so every day is different.

Why did you choose this job? It’s something I have always wanted to do. I grew up cutting and styling people’s hair. I enjoy making people look and feel good.

What kind of training, if any, do you need for this job? One would need 1,600 hours of schooling. After that, you would have to go to Albuquerque to take both written and practical exams. We also try to go to hair shows as often as we can.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy the peole and getting to know them. Hair is also something I have always loved to do; I like to see results.
