Parent-teacher conferences scheduled

There will be no school Monday for Portales High School students. Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. in the PHS Cafeteria. All parents are welcome to to speak with their child’s teachers. Information: 356-7015.

Second quarter begins

PHS students have completed the first quarter of the 2008-2009 school year. The second quarter is in full swing and will conclude before students are dismissed for Christmas break on Dec. 19.

UNM recruiter to visit

Jesse Pederson of the University of New Mexico will be on campus Friday to talk with PHS seniors interested in finding out more about the UNM BA/MD program, a unique program designed to recruit New Mexico high school students to the medical field and keep them in the state as a future physician. Students interested in speaking with Pederson may sign up in the counseling and guidance office no later than Thursday.

College entrance exams

Seniors interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on Dec. 13. Deadline to register is Nov. 7.
The next SAT will be given on Dec. 6. Deadline to register is Nov. 5. The late deadline to register is Nov. 18; an additional charge is required. Seniors should also be deciding which college(s) they intend on applying to as well as obtaining scholarship information.


Available scholarships are posted on the Portales Schools website in the schools section under Portales High School, Counselors Corner. Students can visit the counseling and guidance office for more information about college entrance exams, college admissions, and scholarships.
