An account to benefit Kevin Gardels of Portales has been established at Wells Fargo Bank.
Gardels is a cancer survivor, having undergone treatment for primary myelofibrosis, which included a bone marrow transplant in 2003. More recently, he was diagnosed with emphesema, and last month had two heart attacks. He will require continuing treatment at a hospital in Lubbock.
Gardels said he receives social security disability. He also has Medicaid and some insurance, but it doesn’t cover all the expenses related to his treatment.
Gardels is a former local radio personality and currently working on a master’s degree in communication at Eastern New Mexico University.
Gardels is married and has two children.
Donations can be made at Wells Fargo to the Kevin M. Gardels Donation Account.
