Senior forward Lizzie Brenner poured in 29 points and Central Oklahoma’s women led from start to finish Saturday in a 90-72 Lone Star Conference crossover victory over Eastern New Mexico University at Greyhound Arena.
The Bronchos (6-1), ranked 11th in NCAA Division II, were coming off their first loss of the season on Thursday night at West Texas A&M, but kept the Zias (5-4) at bay with the help of 27-of-34 shooting from the free throw line. UCO also forced ENMU into 23 turnovers.
Sophomore Ashley Beckley came off the bench for 21 points and six rebounds for the Bronchos, while Cristina Yarbrough added 12 points.
ENMU got 11 points and seven assists from sophomore point guard Tori Northcutt. Sophomores Cat Clay and Samantha Matta each added 10 points.
Sophomore Ashley Beckley scored five points in a 7-0 start for Central, a lead the Bronchos would never relinquish.
The Zias pulled to 15-11 six minutes into the game on Clay’s 3-pointer, and back to within four (20-16) on sophomore Til-Lois Fifer’s trey near the midway point of the half.
The Bronchos went on a 10-0 run for a 33-18 lead and were up 43-35 at the half.
ENMU got within 47-41 on a Northcutt 3-pointer with 17 1/2 minutes left, but then went the next four minutes with only one field goal as the Bronchos opened a 61-45 margin.
Central’s biggest lead was 28 points (84-56) with 6 1/2 minutes left.
Brenner finished the game 10-for-13 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and added 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Led by Ashley, the Bronchos got 39 points from their bench.
