Democratic Rep. Ben Lujan’s first committee appointment will have him work closely with Cannon Air Force Base, a spokesman said Wednesday.
Lujan, who won the Nov. 4 general election for the 3rd Congressional District, was appointed Monday to the Committee on Homeland Security, according to a press release from Lujan’s office.
Created following the Sept. 11 attacks, the committee oversees issues including emergency preparedness, border security and intelligence, according to the release.
“The appointment to the Committee on Homeland security is extremely important for Cannon Air Force Base as it continues its special (operations) mission, which is reliant on information sharing and intelligence, two areas under the jurisdiction of the committee,” said Lujan spokesman Mark Nicastre. “Congressman Lujan looks forward to meeting with officials at Cannon Air Force Base and members of the community to strengthen the base and continue its role in keeping our country safe.”
