College Goal Sunday slated
College Goal Sunday will be hosted at Portales High School 1-3 p.m. in the Portales High School/Portales Municipal School District Computer Lab.
College Goal Sunday provides financial aid application assistance to help ensure New Mexico students overcome barriers to college affordability. Representatives from the Eastern New Mexico University Financial Aid Office will be present to assist college bound high school seniors and their parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) accurately in order to attain student financial aid.
Parents and students are asked to bring 2008 IRS 1040 Tax returns, W-2 Forms, and other 2008 Income & Benefits Information.
Attendees will have a chance to win a $500 scholarship. Parents and students may contact the PHS guidance office at 356-7015 or log on to www.collegegoalsundaynm.org for more information.
College entrance exam schedule
Seniors interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on April 4.
Deadline to register is Feb. 27. The next SAT will be given on March 14. The deadline to register is Feb. 10. Seniors should also be deciding which college(s) they intend on applying to as well as obtaining scholarship information.
Available scholarships are posted on the Portales Schools website in the schools section under Portales High School, Counselors Corner. Students can visit the counseling & guidance office for more information about college entrance exams, college admissions, and scholarships. Navy recruiter coming to PHS
Andrew Stevens of United States Navy will be on campus Tuesday to speak with PHS students interested in finding out more information about the United States Navy. Students may sign-up at the Counseling & Guidance office no later than Monday.
CCC recruiter planning visit
John Hanson of Clovis Community College’s Recruitment and Retention Services will be on Campus Wednesday to visit with senior students interested in attending CCC for the 2009-10 academic year. Interested students can sign-up at the Counseling and Guidance office no later than Tuesday.
