Police say Portales robbery call false alarm

A call to Portales dispatchers about an armed robbery call Friday afternoon at Portales National Bank turned out to be a false alarm, according to Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry.

Berry said the call came around 5 p.m.

Several officers responded to Portales National Bank, but police found no evidence of a robbery, Berry said.

“Police have been working on it for some time,” Berry said. “We are trying to get some information from the phone carrier right now in order to get more specifics about it.”

Berry said police also checked the other banks in town in case the call was a diversion technique.
