Fire Chief James Kiker cruised down Colorado Street, asking people in each house the location of a reported fire. The child who had telephoned to report the fire had hung up before giving the address. Fortunately, the fire was found before it caused much damage.

A notice of appeal was filed to the district Supreme Court by area taxpayers opposed to the issuance of $350,000 in bonds to build a new school in Portales. The appeal was filed four days before the 30-day deadline expired, which would have opened up further dealings to create plans for the new school.
