Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary
The first meeting of 2009 for the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary met in the home of President Sid Phillips Jan. 21 at 9:30 a.m., for a social meeting prior to the general meeting at 10 a.m.
Vice President Linda Uttaro assisted Phillips with the fresh fruits and rolls served tot he members.
President Phillips called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. with the reading of the Auxiliary Prayer. Linda Uttaro moved the acceptance of the secretary’s minutes as corrected by Adele Breech, secretary. Wanda Martinez, treasurer, reported a healthy balance with one outstanding bill to be paid.
As of Feb. 18th the Auxiliary has 51 paid members, with three new members, Nancy Worley, Jo Ann Hayes, and Sis Lovato.
President Phillips announced a change in the ENMU Scholarship committee to include Alta Dalley, Mary Clotfelter, Rosalie Patrick, and Pat Watson.
Gayle Richardson, head of nursing spoke to the need for wheelchairs, especially on days of eye surgery. She recommended the need for one that would accommodate a person weighing over 200 pounds. Linda Uttaro moved that we approve $1,000 to be spent for chairs, Carl Britton seconded.
The next meeting will be March 18.
Altrusa International Inc. of Portales met Feb. 23, in the Sandia Room at Eastern New Mexico University. Vaunceil Turnbough, president, presided over the business meeting and conducted the opening ceremonies.
Secret pals were thanked. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
There were 28 members and three guests present. Linda Davis gave the Altrusa Accent. Notes were read from the Baptist Children’s Home and the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home thanking the club for the recent donation of $2,000 to each.
Linda Davis reported on the recently held Spaghetti Supper, which raised approximately $1,000 to help provide eyeglasses for needy recipients. Members who helped with the project were recognized.
Dannah Brown and Sharon Davis were recognized as Mystery Members, and Lori Bohm drew for the Queen of Hearts.
