Portales Mayor Orlando Ortega Jr. has been appointed by Gov. Bill Richardson as a member of the New Mexico Workforce Development Board through Dec. 31, 2012.
Ortega was sworn in by City Clerk Joan Martinez-Terry at City Hall on Thursday.
The board exists in state and federal statute to ensure workers across the state have training opportunities and businesses are able to hire qualified workers. This board has been reorganized to put a larger emphasis on technology, labor and clean energy.
“As we prepare to receive $58 million in federal stimulus money, I want a more diverse board that reflects New Mexico’s growing clean energy economy and workforce needs,” Richardson said.
