Fire caused minimal damage to the Portales Valley Mills building on Sunday and a firefighter injured battling the blaze was released after treatment, officials said.
The fire was the third in 10 days involving city businesses.
Lt. Mike Golden of the Portales Fire Department said Sunday an investigator told him no cause had been determined for any of the fires.
Sunday’s fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. and was extinguished by 4:45 p.m.
Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said firefighter Stephen Cain was transported from the scene in an ambulance after suffering a leg injury inside the building.
Berry said the fire appeared to have started on the second floor of the building, which was used for storage of records.
Golden said the building was unoccupied.
No other injuries were reported.
The roof of Big Valley Ford’s repair shop in Portales burned on Friday. And on March 27, fire destroyed Dollar General and a Trader Horn’s True Value Hardware warehouse in Portales.
Berry said Friday officials do not believe the Big Valley blaze was connected to the Dollar General fire. He said it’s too early to tell what started Sunday’s fire.
Weather officials have warned about high risk of fires across the region because of dry, windy conditions.
