Teen stabbed in altercation

PNT Staff Report

A 17-year-old male was stabbed Sunday night in the 800 block of South Avenue B, according to Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry.

Police were called to the residence at 7:44 p.m. Sunday, and found the 17-year-old had been stabbed in the stomach area during an altercation. Berry said the teenager was admitted to Roosevelt General Hospital.

Berry said he expected arrests in connection with the case Monday night or Tuesday.

The incident would bring charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony, which would typically carry a three-year prison sentence, he said.

The name and condition of the 17-year-old were not available, and Berry said police didn’t know the cause of the fight.
