County set to recieve DWI program grant

The Portales/Roosevelt County DWI Program is receiving a grant of close to $126,000 from the state.

Program coordinator Marcia Brown said the money comes from a tax on liquor and must be spent on DWI prevention and education. The program receives the grant yearly, but amounts vary.

The money pays for screening DWI offenders, probation costs for first-time offenders, Teen Court programs and prevention activities such as banners and presentations in schools, Brown said.
