Officials: Clovis Relay for Life a success

By Clarence Plank: PNT staff writer

A warm spring night and huge turnout combined for one of the most successful Relay for Life fundraisers yet in Clovis.

As of Saturday, the annual American Cancer Society event had raised $93,957 in donations.

Last year, the event raised $89,600.

Cancer society spokesperson Dorothy Nelson said 64 teams competed in the walking event held at Ned Houk Park. Nelson noted problems with cold or rainy weather in past years.

“It was amazing,” Nelson said. “An absolutely gorgeous night… there were so many people there.”

Chairman for the event Sheryll Plyler said it was a great turnout and great weather.

“As of last night we still have money coming in,” Plyler said.

Donations are still being accepted: or call the local office: 762-5112.
