Portales man facing felony drug charges

A Portales man faces a felony charge of intent to traffic methamphetamine, according to a Roosevelt County Sheriff’s office news release.

Javier Prado, 33, of Portales was arrested on May 9 after a search warrant was executed at 792 Roosevelt Rd. S 1/2.

Officers reported they found a .45-caliber handgun, digital scales and plastic bags commonly used for packaging controlled substances. Officers also found $1,700 in cash, approximately one ounce of marijuana and what was described in the news release as a “large amount” of crystal methamphetamine.

Prado was booked into the Roosevelt County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
