Music building renovation ramping up

Eastern New Mexico University may be on a break from classes, but renovation work at the Music Building will be ramped up.

This week, utilities to some campus buildings will be turned off periodically as a result.

Among the effected areas will be the water cutoffs to the faculty lounge of Golden Library and to the Student Academic Services (SAS) building. Cool water for building cooling will also be shut down at times to the SAS and the university’s Computer Center.

Contractors on the Music Building project say most of the service interruptions will take place for only one day.

Liu persuades judges

Jane Liu won the spring semester Best Persuasive Speaker contest held at Ground Zero of the Campus Union Building and earned $150. Lawrence Baker was judged second, receiving $100. Robert Pitts, Martha Hunnicutt and Jena Harthorn got $50 each.

The competition was limited to students enrolled in ENMU’s public speaking course and was sponsored by publishing company Bedford/St. Martin’s and Eastern’s Academic Affairs department.
