Council will raise centennial flag following meeting

The Portales City Council is meeting two hours earlier than usual Tuesday because of the Portales Centennial Street Fair.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m. Afterward, council members will relocate to the street fair for a raising of the Portales Centennial flag and a reading of the city’s first ordinance from 100 years ago.

The council has two resolutions for grant money to consider.

One is a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant for improved street drainage in an area bordered by Elgin, Globe, Amazon and 1st streets.

The second is a $20,000 award from the New Mexico Department of Health to make Portales one of three pilot locations for a proposed New Mexico Emergency Response System.
