Wal-Mart stores in Portales and Clovis have been participating in a program that supplies fresh food to Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico.

The food donated from the stores is distributed by Roadrunner to food banks around the state, said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jina Michael.

In its five months of operating, the program has distributed more than 170,000 pounds of food to more than 1,600 families in New Mexico, according to a news release from Wal-Mart.
