Roosevelt County needed 500 broomcorn pullers if that year’s crop was to be saved. Robert Dunn, manager of the New Mexico employment office, said in the Portales Daily Tribune. Dunn estimated the broomcorn crop in the county at approximately 30,000 acres that year and said most of it would have to be taken from the fields within the next 10 days if it was to be saved.
