Hot Threads is moving to the square over the weekend and will be setting up shop next to Crafty Creations and Jackson Hewitt tax service.
The retail store is planning to open its doors Tuesday.
Owner Debbie Christiansen moved back to Portales two years ago so her children could be closer to their grandparents. She had a hard time trying to find a job and figured she would go into business for herself with Hot Threads a year ago.
Christiansen said she thinks being on the square will increase her exposure to customers. She said some of her customers had a hard time finding her in the previous location.
“I’ve worked in retail all my life, so I thought I could do it,” Christiansen said. “It has worked out fine.”
Hot Threads merchandise includes purses, clothing, jewelry and hats.
With the extra space, Christiansen says she can expand to include things she couldn’t have at the other store such as plus-size clothing.
