According to the Portales News-Tribune, the Golden Arches emblematic of McDonald’s restaurants would soon appear in Portales, reflecting a further expansion of the worldwide chain’s tri-state area franchise. Construction in Portales began in July and was to be completed early in 1979, according to Ron McVean, owner-operator of the McDonald’s franchise in the tri-state area. He added that about 45-50 local residents would be employed at the location.
