LSC honors four Zias in soccer — Senior forward Samantha Lawrence has been chosen to the All-Lone Star Conference second team in soccer.
Lawrence, from Roswell, led the Zias this season with seven goals, and ENMU won each of the five matches in which she scored, including two-goal outings against Howard Payne and New Mexico Highlands. She holds nearly every offensive career record at ENMU, including 37 goals in 74 matches played.
Three Zias were chosen for honorable mention, including sophomore midfielder Danielle Thurman of Albuquerque, senior defender Michelle Sumner of Los Lunas and sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Cardenas of Wheat Ridge, Colo.
Thurman led ENMU with five assists, tying her for sixth place in that category in the LSC. Sumner was twice named LSC defensive player of the week and helped the Zias post eight shutouts, while Sierra was 7-9 in goal and recorded five shutout wins.
Meantime, Lawrence was selected to the LSC All-Academic team. Eight other Zias were named to the commissioners honor roll — Sumner and fellow senior Leslie Weber of Alamogordo; juniors Justine Tydings of Albuquerque and Sarah Spencer of Las Cruces, and sophomores Andrea Elizondo of El Paso, Calie Rush of Clovis, Jordan Sjue of Roswell and Mackenzie Morris of Colorado Springs, Colo.
