During the Portales City Council meeting Tuesday at City Hall, councilors:
• approved a notice of intent to adopt an ordinance for zoning classification for the new Prairie Walk Subdivision. The plan is for four four-unit townhouses, a total of 16 homes, on 2.1 acres of land south of the city Recreation Complex on the west side of North Industrial Drive at 14th Street.
Planning Director Sammy Standefer said the zoning classification would next go to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a recommendation and then back to the council.
• presented certificates of appreciation to retirees Fire Chief John Bridges, who has 21 years of work with the city, fire department Battalion Chief Mickey Hargrove, with 22 years, and Joe Parie, with more than 24 years as street superintendent.
• James D’Agostino, retiring Roosevelt General Hospital administrator, and Tammy Phillips, RGH safety and planning officer, presented Portales Chief of Police Jeff Gill, Roosevelt County Emergency Management Director Keith Wattenbarger and Interim Fire Chief Gary Nuckols with certificates for their support during the flu outbreak in Roosevelt County.
• heard the lights on the Roosevelt County Courthouse run along with Christmas music broadcast over the radio on 106.7 FM.
