Dewayne “Buster” Tucker is the new owner of Shorty’s Dry Cleaning.
He purchased it three months ago from former owner Dewayne Vardeman.
“It is kind of exciting and new,” Tucker said about going into the dry cleaning business. “I took it on as a challenge to learn something new. I like serving the community and this is a different way of doing it.”
Tucker also owns Chaparral heating, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing, which does service work and sells ceiling fans and light fixtures in their store.
Shorty’s cleans comforters, suits, tuxedos, dresses, alterations and repair holes and zippers.
“Right now, is a great time to start a business if you can survive,” Tucker said. “If you can survive through this you can make it though anything. My main goal was to provide some jobs for some people. Give them a job and hopefully serve the community.”
Tucker said he enjoys the community. Tucker said they may cut back the hours on Saturday, but right now they are open 8 a.m. to noon.
“It gives people the opportunity if they missed us Friday,” Tucker said. “If they are out and about on Saturday they can swing by, drop off or pick up. We don’t operate, but we have one guy there who can take drop offs or do pick ups.”
