LUBBOCK — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore Bill Squire earned a provisional qualification for the NCAA Division II track and field championships in the hammer throw on Saturday, tossing it 180 feet, 8 inches for second place in the Texas Tech Invitational.
Squire also placed fourth in shot put (51-8 1/2), seventh in discus (157-11).
Also for ENMU, Daniel Draper (181-11) and Anthony Anderson (169-8) went 1-2 in javelin, and Jonathan Bull was fifth in shot put at 51-7.
On the track, Jacob Lozano was third in 15:34.96, Richard Kugo fourth in 15:34.96, Pedro Martinez sixth in 15:51.77 and Patrick Lueras eighth in 15:59.06 in the 5,000, whille John Rea was third in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:09.39), Dustin Francke sixth in the 800 (1:57.19), J.T. Thompson eighth in the 400 (50.09) and Justin Netcher eighth in the 10,000 (34:26.94).
The Greyhounds were fifth in the 400 relay (41.97) and the 1,600 relay (3:27.38).
Jerri Martin led the ENMU women with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 in 19:53.73. Kassie Daugherty was sixth in shot put (35-6 1/2) and seventh in discus (136-1).
ENMU track teams return to action on May 1 in the Oliver Jackson Open at Abilene Christian.
