Police say homicide victim was shot

Police confirmed Friday that Angel Vale, 22, was killed by a gunshot wound to the head.

Portales Police Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry said the time of death was between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Officers have recovered the weapon they believe was used, a .22-caliber rifle and shell casings, he said.

Berry said no arrests have been made, but police are “taking a good look at” a couple of people, who are cooperating.

Vale was a student at Eastern New Mexico University and worked as a waitress at Something Different Grill in Portales, police said.
