A 46-year-old man arrested Thursday evening for DWI is in a Lubbock hospital after he hanged himself by his boot laces in a Curry County jail bathroom.

Curry County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Curry County Detention Center just before midnight Thursday night for a report of a suicide attempt, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller.

The man was found in a bathroom within the holding area and first aid was rendered on scene, Waller wrote in an email.

The man was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center, Waller said, and then airlifted to a Lubbock hospital.

Waller, who declined to identify the inmate, said he is not aware of the man’s current medical status.

The incident is under investigation, Waller said.
