The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team trailed only briefly at the start of the third game Tuesday night and the Zias cruised to a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 at Greyhound Arena.
Junior middle blocker Jessica King had eight kills, five aces and five block assists while junior middle blocker Stacey Main contributed five kills and six total blocks (five solos) as the Zias (10-10) reached the .500 mark for the season.
ENMU led all the way except for a 1-1 tie in the first game, building a 10-3 lead and never allowing the Lady Aggies (6-17) closer than three points.
OPSU pulled even 7-7 in the second game before the Zias went on a 9-0 run that included two kills by Main and two aces by King. The Lady Aggies then scored the first two points of the third set, but ENMU went in front for good 4-3 on an OPSU attack error and stayed ahead the rest of the way.
Senior setter Veronica Valdez-Kent had 24 assists and four block assists and two aces for the Zias, who had a 9-3 margin in aces for the match and took advantage of nine Panhandle service errors.
It was ENMU’s third win against no losses this season against the Lady Aggies.
The Zias return to Lone Star Conference play on Thursday with a 6 p.m. matchup against East Central at Ada, Okla.
