Roosevelt County voters elected Irma Lorraine Goodrich and Steven Connelly Tuesday to the Roosevelt General Hospital Board.

Goodrich won the District 1 seat previously held by Lydia Ornelas, while Connelly takes Terry Cone’s seat in District 2.

Goodrich beat Dennis Lopez by four votes, 238 to 234, but cautioned that vote total could change.

Goodrich said the Roosevelt county clerk still must count provisional ballots on Friday. The vote totals could change.

“I won’t be able to say anything until Friday because I don’t know what the results are right now,” Goodrich said.

Lopez said he is looking forward to meeting Goodrich regarding any concerns or issues about the medical services in the county.

“I want to congratulate my opponent,” Lopez said. “When I received her flier that was mailed out as a candidate for this position, I was really impressed with her credentials so I think she is going to be a great representative for our district. I wish her the best of luck.”

In the District 2 race, Connelly received 561 votes, close to 54 percent, and Cone received 486, or 46 percent.

Connelly said he planned to work with the RGH administration and the other board members. He has several issues he wants to look into, but he’ll have to learn the situation, he said.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to serve my community at the hospital board,” Connelly said.

Cone said the board had a long way to go and he wished them the best of luck.

“Hopefully they can keep the hospital running in the black and provide good medical service to the community,” the 12-year veteran of the hospital board said.
