Police blotter — Nov. 24

Samplings of recent calls to Portales-area law enforcement, according to police reports:

About 4:40 p.m., officers went to a business in the 1600 block of East Spruce Street to handle a report of shoplifting.

A detective heard the call of shoplifting on the police radio and saw two teenage boys run from the store. He chased them and caught a 17-year-old. The boy had two bottles of liquor.

Another officer pursued the other boy — a 15-year-old — found him and returned to the scene.

A third officer spoke to the store manager, who said video surveillance showed and customers saw the boys put liquor bottles in their jackets and the younger boy place cans of soda in his pants. When the manager approached the boys, they fled from the store.

Police couldn’t find the soda.

The 17-year-old said friends asked him and the other boy to steal the liquor so they could all party.

The 15-year-old said he didn’t steal anything and police couldn’t arrest him if he didn’t have the property with him. When an officer told the boy about the video surveillance, he admitted to shoplifting.

Neither boy would give information about the friends who asked them to steal.

An officer took the boys to Portales Police Department. Both had previous criminal charges. They were released to their parents.
