Last weekend was my birthday and it was by far, one of the best I’ve had in awhile.
After 21 years of living in the area, I finally visited Elida for the first time Friday night to attend the Christmas on the Square event.
The square was charming with its lit buildings and family-friendly shops. The citizens of Elida were delightful and much to my humiliation, my best friend coaxed a shop filled with about 30 of them into singing “Happy Birthday” to me.
We took my friend’s two children along and as we crossed the street with our hot cocoa after our free hay ride, her 5-year-old exclaimed dramatically that it was the best night of her life.
Another highlight to my weekend was The Winter Wine Festival at the new Yam Theater in Portales, which was also a delightfully fun atmosphere.
Those who put the event together put a lot of work into it and did a great job and it was nice to meet more of the Portales community and have some enjoyable conversation. I want to especially thank Brad and Jane Hamann for being some of the best dinner company I’ve had in a long time.
