Senior first baseman Taylor Howard hit three home runs and drove in 11 runs Wednesday as the Eastern New Mexico University softball team swept the University of the Southwest in a non-conference doubleheader.
Howard was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and four RBI as the Zias won the opener 11-4.
Erin Roufosse (3-11) went the distance, scattering nine hits while striking out six and walking one.
Katlyn Medrano added a two-run home run — her third of the season — as the Zias banged out 16 hits.
Mari Niebjas went 3-for-3 for Hobbs-based UofSW (10-12).
Howard added a pair of home runs as the Zias took the second game 13-4, including a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning that triggered an eight-run rule that ended the game. It was Howard’s third multiple homer game of her career.
Junior third baseman Paige Colburn hit a grand slam in ENMU’s five-run first. It was the first time in school history the Zias hit two grand slams in a game.
Tessa Fioritti and Medrano added three hits each for the Zias, who finished with 15 hits.
Brittany Widner (2-3) picked up the win.
Liz Garcia was 3-for-3 with three doubles for UofSW.
