A 26-year-old Portales man received an eight-year sentence Tuesday for burglarizing two businesses and damaging property at the Roosevelt County jail.
Nasario Maldonado was arrested in November 2010 after he was identified by officers watching surveillance footage of a burglary to Robert’s TV and Appliance in Portales, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.
In the video, Maldonado could be seen breaking a glass door and stealing two flat screen TVs, the release said.
Officers found pieces of glass on Maldonado’s clothes and recovered items stolen from a prior burglary at Portales’ KC Express.
While incarcerated at the Roosevelt County jail, Maldonado also damaged $1,200 of jail property, the release said.
Upon completion of his sentence, Maldonado will be required to serve a year of supervised probation.
