I have had a lot of people ask me about my mention of the Lions Club at the end of my article.
I am a proud member of the Portales Lions Club, and have been for more than 30 years. That is not the reason that I mentioned them at the end of my column.
The Lions Club has a long standing tradition that if you are named in a newspaper or on television, and do not mention the Lions Club, they will fine you.
I am sure you can imagine over the last several years they have fined me many times. I figured up what it would cost me every week, and the cheapest way for me to get out of this was to just mention the club.
I am a member of several other organizations, but none of them will fine me for not mentioning them. I am glad they don’t.
I am afraid I would sound like I had just won an Academy Award. I would like to thank The Lions Club, the Gideons, First Baptist church… I guess the list could go on for a while.
Let’s hope everyone else does get any bright ideas about this. Some of them might pay me not to mention them.
