Reader-submitted content: Flower sales benefit community

The Portales Kiwanis Club is selling flowers again this spring to beautify our local community.

The flower sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the C&S parking lot on the corner of First Street and Avenue C. The Portales Kiwanis Club is selling geraniums and petunias. All plants are locally sprouted and grown for the Portales climate.

This is the sixth year in a row the Portales Kiwanis club is selling flowers. Kiwanis is a service organization dedicated to helping children and the community through a variety of projects. The funds raised from the annual flower sale will benefit children in the Portales community, funding children’s participation in sports, scholarships for college, books and contributing to organizations providing care.

Red geraniums are selling for $4 each and a dozen petunias for $6. Petunias come in red, pink, purple and white.

Kiwanis is an international organization dedicated to helping children one child at a time and to service projects. Last week in their efforts to improve the living conditions in the local community, members picked up 35 bags of trash and car/truck parts from U.S. 70 southwest of Portales.
