USDA authorizing grazing on CRP land

Freedom New Mexico

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has authorized livestock producers in Curry, Lea and Roosevelt counties to graze their cattle on land enrolled in conservation programs.

According to a memorandum issued Wednesday, the department authorized a 30-day use of CRP lands for grazing by livestock producers who lost pasture or fences due to an April 17 wildfire that burned almost 71,000 acres.

The emergency use period expires May 14.
