• An officer took a report of animal cruelty about 6:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of San Miguel Court.

An 18-year-old woman said her small dog had been beaten and was en route to the veterinary clinic. She said her 20-year-old husband was short-tempered, disliked the dog and might have been the one who hurt it.

There was blood in the bedroom, hallway, bathroom and living room.

The husband said he left the house at 2:30 p.m. and hadn’t returned.

The woman said she left about 3:30 p.m. and came back about 6 p.m. The house was secure when she returned, she said.

The officer spoke to a 23-year-old man, who said he was coming into Portales on U.S. 70 about 4:50 p.m. and passed the 20-year-old man leaving Portales.

The investigation was to continue.
